Critically Acclaimed Author to Give Reading March 11 @ SMCM

Prolific Canadian author Jonathan Bennett will read from his works as part of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland VOICES Reading Series at 8:15 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the Daugherty-Palmer Commons. Bennett’s latest novel is Entitlement: a novel (2008), and he was the winner of the 2008 K.M. Hunter Artists’ Award in Literature. This event is free and open to the public.

Bennett is the author of three previous books, including the critically acclaimed novel After Battersea Park; a book of poetry, Here is my street, this tree I planted; and a collection of short stories, Verandah People, which was runner up for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award for best first collection of stories by a Canadian author. His writing also has appeared in many periodicals and journals, including the Globe and Mail, Quill and Quire, Antipodes: A North American Journal of Australian Literature, and Descant.

Born in Vancouver and raised in Sydney, Australia, Bennett lives in Peterborough, Ontario, and will teach at the Humber School for Writers in Toronto in the book-length correspondence program in May 2010.
